Drywall is a panel used to create interior walls and ceilings. It’s also called Sheetrock (U.S. Gypsum Corporation product), gyp board, gypsum board, plasterboard, and wallboard.
Drywalling is an area that we recommend you seek out a professional installer on. The material is heavy and cumbersome to handle for a single person, and to get the finished look right you need to be able to tape and mud the seams properly, which is best done by a practiced hand. For smaller projects though and with some attention to detail drywall can be done by an individual without professional assistance.
In most residential applications, ½” drywall is used on vertical walls and 5/8” drywall is used on ceilings. When your application is near water exposure areas (above a shower for instance), we recommend using ‘green board’, or water-resistant drywall specific for this type of use.
